Southern California philanthropist Harlyne Norris, namesake for the Palos Verdes Performing Arts pavilion, died Saturday from cancer at the age of 83.
Norris was best known by the buildings named after her, particularly the Harlyne J.
Norris Pavilion at Palos Verdes Performing Arts and a cancer research center at USC. It was a commitment to philanthropy and her family that set her apart, said her daughter, Lisa Hansen, chair of the board of trustees for the Kenneth T.
and Eileen L. Norris Foundation.
“What made her so special is her sharp mind and her wonderful personality and sense of humor,” Hansen said. “She had a real zeal for life.”
A general compassion for people drove her dedication to philanthropic projects, Hansen said, particularly for causes benefiting medicine, higher education and the arts.
